Dental Faculty Medal
Dental Council and College Council Nomination
The Dental Faculty Medal is awarded to dentists or others who have made a distinguished contribution to the Faculty and to dentistry in the United Kingdom or overseas.
The selection process is completed by Dental Council and as such there is no need to apply for this medal.

FDS International Medal
Dental Council and College Council Nomination
The FDS Medal, formally called the Dean of the Dental Faculty Overseas Medal, is awarded by the FDS on the recommendation of the Dental Council, to dentists or others who have made a significant contribution to the Faculty, College or Dentistry overseas.Ìý
The selection process is completed by Dental Council and as such there is no need to apply for this medal.Ìý

FST / Silver Suture
ASiT Executive Commitee / FST Nomination
The Silver Suture Award identifies the best trainee trainer in the UK through open nomination. The awardee should fulfil the following criteria:Â
- Leadership
- Professionalism
- Resourcefulness
- Trainee Development
- °ä´Ç³¾³¾³Ü²Ô¾±³¦²¹³Ù¾±´Ç²ÔÌý
Nominations should include a letter detailing the trainee's name, current department and NHS trust along with evidence that they meet the above criteria, and support from other trainees, consultants and other allied health practitioners.Ìý
The awardee will be awarded the ASiT conference and Gala Dinner.Ìý

FST Medal
FST, Awards Commitee & College Council Nomination
The FST medal aims to recognise exceptional contributions to surgical education or training. Candidates should be nominated by Fellows, Members of Associates of the FST, and those nominated should then submit a CV, which highlights their contributions.Ìý
Nominated candidates should illustrate at least one of the following:Â
- Consistency of education or training over an extended period
- Have national or international recognition of their surgical education or training
- Have had significant impact on research behind training
- Have had a positive impact on the delivery of a service or training
- Have Influenced others with publications or innovationÂ
The successful awardee will receive a medal at the FST conference each year.Ìý
This medal is awarded by nomination and ratified by the College Council, as such there is no application process.

FPHC Medal
FPHC Panel
The FPHC Medal recognises exceptional individuals who have delivered fundamental and developmental change within the Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care.Ìý
The awardee will receive a medal which will be presented at a FPHC event.Ìý

The Council Medal is awarded in exceptional circumstances for outstanding service to the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.Ìý
The Council Medal is selected through nominations of Award Committee members.

The ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ Medal is awarded in recognition of outstanding service to the College or to Surgery in general.Ìý

The Pehin Aziz Medals awarded each year by the ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ Council to the overseas Fellow who has made significant contributions to the College.Ìý

Presidents' Gold Medal
Presidental Nomination
The Presidents' Gold Medal is awarded just once by each President of the College in recognition of contributions of individuals during a Presidents' tenure. Only once has this Medal been awarded to a UK based awardee.
John Bruce Medal
College Council and President Nomination
The John Bruce Medal is awarded to a Fellow of the College in recognition of a major contribution to surgical knowledge or teaching.Ìý

The Dundas Medal
The Dundas Medal is awarded annually to individuals or teams in UK hospitals who have made exceptional contributions to improving palliative care. Established in memory of Dr Charles Robert (Bertie) Dundas, this prestigious award recognises those who have made a lasting impact on palliative care practices.

The Hunter Doig Medal
The Hunter Doig Medal is awarded biennially to female ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ Fellows or Members who demonstrate career potential, clinical excellence and contributions to education and research. It honours Alice Headwards-Hunter and Caroline May Doig, pioneering women in surgery.

The Farquharson Award
The Farquharson Award recognises exceptional contributions to teaching surgery or anatomy at any level. Open to surgeons and allied professionals, this biennial award celebrates innovation in education, with winners receiving a £1,000 honorarium to support their teaching practice.
